FluentRead

Translate web pages with RuToken models in the open-source browser extension FluentRead.

FluentRead is an open-source browser translation extension for immersive bilingual reading. It supports 20+ engines — classic translators and AI models — with side-by-side bilingual display, selection translation and full-page translation. All settings stay in your browser.

Prerequisites

  • An API key: open the console, go to API Keys and create a dedicated key (for example, named FluentRead).

Installation

Browser Store
Chrome Chrome Web Store
Edge Edge Add-ons
Firefox Firefox Add-ons

Configuration

Option A: send the key from the console

  1. With FluentRead installed and enabled, open the API Keys page in the console.
  2. Open the actions menu of the key and choose Chat → FluentRead (available when your administrator has enabled it).
  3. Confirm the import in the FluentRead dialog. The service, address and key are filled in for you; pick a model afterwards.

If you see "FluentRead extension not detected", make sure the extension is installed, enabled and allowed on this site, then reload the page.

Option B: manual setup

Open the FluentRead settings and fill in:

Setting Value
Translation service New API (FluentRead's built-in option for this type of gateway)
Access token sk-xxxx
Endpoint https://rutoken.ai (without /v1)
Model choose from the list, or select a custom model
Custom model a model ID from the Model Square, e.g. gpt-4o-mini

Verify

Open any foreign-language web page and translate it with the floating button or by hovering over a paragraph. Translated text appearing next to the original means it works; the requests appear in the console under Usage Logs.

Troubleshooting

Symptom Fix
401 / invalid API key Paste the full key again; check that it is enabled, not expired and has quota left.
404 / not found Enter https://rutoken.ai as the endpoint, without /v1 or any path.
Model not found Use a custom model ID that exists in the Model Square and is allowed for the key.
